Clinical handover is an important event in hospitals. A clinical handover occurs when a patient is transferred from hospital to hospital, or from one care team to another. Carers WA has argued that involving the family carer is essential for safety and quality in health care and there is strong evidence from the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care to support our position.
Carers WA is concerned that the Clinical Handover Policy needs to be consistent with other areas of legislation, in particular the Carers Recognition Act, the Guardianship and Administration Act, the draft Mental Health Bill and with the WA Department of Health Language Services Policy.
Carers WA appreciates the opportunity to work with the WA Department of Health in their efforts to improve policies to support, identify and recognise family carers.
