Carer Workshops

Carers WA workshops are designed to provide carers with information, knowledge and skills to better help them in their caring role.

Our free workshops have been designed to specifically address the issues and concerns experienced by many carers throughout Western Australia.

Our workshops provide carers with the opportunity to take some time out to share experiences and gain valuable information and skills to better help them in their caring role.

Who should attend?

You can attend if you are a family member, or friend, who is caring for a person with a disability, chronic or mental illness, or someone who is frail aged.

Types of Workshops

Join one of Carers WA’s interactive workshops if you would like to take some time out with other carers and share your experiences whilst gaining invaluable information and skills.

  • Things You Need to Know in the Caring Role
It can feel overwhelming for carers trying to find the right information and services to assist them in their caring role. This workshop cuts through the confusion; exploring what services are available and demystifying the Carers Recognition Act and what it means to you.
  • Safety at Home
Nearly a third of carers report injury as a result of their caring role.  Much of this can be attributed to lifting and a lack of appropriate equipment or support.  This workshop will cover practical aspects of maintaining a safe caring environment for both you and the person you care for.
  • Relationships: Tools for Talking
Sometimes caring can leave you feeling as though your life is not yours anymore.  How do you effectively manage both your caring role and the relationships around you?  These and other questions will be explored.
  • Exploring Loss & Grief in the Caring Role
“I just get angry at the drop of a hat”.  “I don’t know why I’m crying”.  “I just feel heavy and lost”.  Ever felt this way?  Many carers adjust to the changes in their lives through caring one day at a time. In this workshop we will gently explore the impacts of loss and grief within families who are caring.
  • Transitions and Changes in Caring

Life as a carer is about flexibility and change. Sometimes adjusting to change and transitioning into a new phase of life is difficult to manage on your own. This workshop explores the emotional and practical ways carers can navigate change and transition effectively.

  • Looking after Yourself
Caring can be, and often is a full-time job.  This workshop explores some different ways of getting time out.  We will explore the options and provide some ideas for getting respite.
  • Practical Matters Forums
Financial Issues, Community Services, Power of Attorney, Respite. What do they all mean?  What questions do I need to ask? How do I plan for the future and why? All of these questions will be addressed and more. Our Practical Matters Forums allow carers to meet and chat to a range of carer services all in the one place! They are held four times a year throughout the metropolitan area.
