Kayak for Carers
Kayak for Carers was held during National Carers Week 2018 as an awareness-raising initiative for Carers WA to raise funds and acknowledgement for family carers.
The Carers WA campaign was pioneered through a partnership with ‘Peter’ a serviceman from the Australian Army. Peter was driven by his (and his wife's) personal experience in a caring role for their family friend who suffered from terminal cancer. The pair spent significant time providing support to the friend’s three children whom the illness had also severely impacted.
Peter launched from Hillarys Boat Harbour on Monday 15th October and kayaked 186km over 3 days. Due to extreme weather conditions the Kayak for Carers campaign ended early on Thursday 18th October.
Caring friends and families save the Australian community more than $60 billion per year yet too many carers experience declining health, financial hardship and social isolation because they are not adequately recognised and supported.
Carers WA relies on the generosity of our supporters to achieve improved recognition, support and quality of life for caring families in Western Australia. If you would still like to donate to the Kayak for Carers campaign please visit our Donations page here.
All donations are gratefully accepted. All donations of $2.00 or more are tax deductible and you will receive a tax receipt thanking you for your contribution.
Carers WA would like to acknowledge its generous supporters of the Kayak for Carers campaign in the WA community and beyond.
