The Mental Health Lived Experience Council is responsible for providing direction and Lived Experience expertise for the development of the South Metro Health Service (SMHS) Lived Experience Program. Encapsulating the SMHS Vision: ‘Excellent healthcare, every time,’ and Values: Care, Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence and Respect, the Council will work in partnership with SMHS to ensure that the diversity of consumers, carer/family/significant other/kins and community voices inform the development and delivery of SMHS Mental Health Services’. Its primary roles are to ensure that SMHS Mental Health has the necessary governance processes in place to:
The Council will provide guidance on the development of Lived Experience Programs within SMHS Mental Health based on local experiences, organisational needs, and best practice from a lived experience perspective.
The representatives will consist of people who are a carer/family/significant other/kin of a person who is, or has used Mental Health services, inclusive of:
Primarily this experience will be relevant to SMHS Mental Health services, however the Council recognises and accepts the validity of the experiences of all people whose lives have been impacted by use of mental health services as defined above.
