Board

Linda Wayman

Board Chair

Linda Wayman is a Non-Executive Director with more than 25 years’ experience. She is currently the chair of Carers WA, and on the Tourism Australia board, and most recently was the chair of Australia’s North West and served on the board of Carers Australia.

She headed up the Perth division of Southern Cross Australia, Australia’s largest broadcaster for 15 years and led Perth’s leading radio stations through a changing and competitive landscape, including the commercialisation of the business’ digital assets. Linda has held senior executive service roles in government with the Western Australian government as general manager of EventsCorp, the State’s major event agency; and in the Victorian government in roles in marketing, communications and public affairs. She has extensive experience in government policy and corporate affairs in portfolios such as tourism, small business, planning and infrastructure.

As principal of her marketing and communications business, Linda has developed strategies for destinations as varied as the City of Fremantle and Christmas Island, as well as provided advice on governance, organisational communications and transformation; and issues management.

Linda is a former WA Telstra Businesswoman of the Year and Advertising Person of the Year. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has a Masters of Communications.

Gabor Hernadi

Vice Chair

Gabor is passionate about contributing to the work of purpose led and values driven organisations. His mission is to bring the same level of governance, leadership and capability building know-how to the NFP sector as enjoyed by the commercial sector to meet the ever more complex needs of our community.

Gabor brings practical, and pragmatic Board experience to NFP community and social services organisations operating in regulated and highly intersectional environments, with a strong track record in strategy development, implementation oversight, governance, risk, funding oversight, and CEO succession — supported by executive experience that helps him work effectively with management to balance maximising mission delivery with governance, financial sustainability, and risk.

Denise Quathamer

Treasurer

Denise is an experienced Head of Finance/CFO with over 22 years’ experience within Financial and Management Accounting. She has worked in many different industries including Manufacturing, Aged Care, Insurance, and Facilities Management in Health.

Denise is currently working in Aged Care with SwanCare Group Inc as Head of Finance. She has enjoyed being on the Carers WA Board for over 3 years and values the work Carers WA provide to the community.

Renay Eade

Renay is an experienced Executive and Non-Executive Director, with 25+ years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector. She is currently the Chief Quality and Governance Officer of Ability WA.

Renay has lived experience as a young carer of immediate family members living with disability and complex health issues and is committed to improving outcomes for young carers.

Renay holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, Master of Human Services and Certificate in Clinical Governance. She is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Associate Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management.

Gavin Bagley

Gavin’s working career includes over 50 years in the Western Australian public sector with extensive experience in Information and Communications Technology (ICT), delivering services and outcomes across various government departments encompassing transformation of online services to the community while increasing organisational effectiveness. Gavin is a senior member of the Australian Computer Society and has a Master of Business Systems.

With over 20 years of experience in senior leadership and executive capacity including his previous Director (Chief Information Officer) roles, Gavin’s responsibilities include team leadership along with strategy development and implementation plus program, budget, risk and change management. He is a positive and inclusive leader with a strong focus on developing and supporting his team.

Continuous learning and empowering others to support positive change for the benefit of clients and stakeholders is a key motivator for Gavin.

Jamie-Lee Read

Jamie-Lee has been on the Carers WA Board since 2022, and has worked in community services across State Government, not for profit organisations and the private sector. Jamie-Lee has a law background and is currently working at a NFP consulting organisation that has a focus on social impact and innovation.

Through her career experience, she has focused on working in spaces that have interconnected with family and domestic violence, homelessness and disability in particular, and is passionate about social justice and creating more equitable, dignified services and systems.

Michael Schoch

Carers Australia Representative

Michael is a deeply experienced energy industry professional, having led the development of key energy infrastructure projects, start-up operations, and key commercial contracts, working along the whole energy value chain. He spent just under 4 decades working for Shell, living and working across 4 continents, most recently as Vice President of LNG

Canada, leading the expansion of Canada’s largest energy development project in British Columbia.
In joining the Board of Carers WA, Michael brings a broad range of governance experience from non-incorporated joint ventures, commercial enterprises and not for profit organisations. He also has significant, lived caring experience.

Michael joined the Board of Carers WA in July 2023, where he also sits on the Finance, Audit & Risk (FARS) Committee. With effect from January 2026 Michael has joined the Board of Carers Australia, as the Carers WA member appointed Director.

Alison Neal

Alison is a values-based leader and experienced CEO, Board Member, Transformation Community Leader, Business and Program Manager who focuses on building business resilience. She is a member of the Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA).

She brings her experience of executive and non-executive management, governance, transformation delivery, strategic planning, business management, risk management, and business and financial analysis to the Carers WA Board. She is also a community focused leader that plays an active role in the local tech and digital transformation community.

Peter Le

Peter has over 25 years of legal experience, working in private practice, in house and for local government and has general commercial, corporate, property, construction and major projects experience.  In private practice, Peter has worked for national, international, and top-tier law firms. Peter is a trusted legal advisor to many companies and not for profit organisations.

Peter also sits on various Boards, providing stewardship in legal, governance, risk, and compliance. Peter has been recognised for his work by being the recipient of the WA Volunteer for Multicultural Communities Award 2019 and the Law Society of WA’s Lawyer of the Year Award 2021.

Yvonne Parnell

Yvonne is an accomplished non-executive director with broad strategic and governance experience across public health and the not-for-profit and medical research sectors, including roles with the South Metropolitan Health Service, Alzheimer’s Research Australia, and the National Health and Medical Research Council. 

Her working career spans 15 years as CEO of a community organisation dedicated to supporting and advocating for people with disability and their carers, as well senior executive roles in the corporate sector including professional services consulting and multi-chain retailing. Yvonne’s longstanding passion for consumer and carer engagement and leadership is shaped by her own lived experience. She is deeply committed to improving the lives of carers in Western Australia through practical supports, increased recognition, inclusion and representation.

Executive Management

Richard Newman

Chief Executive Officer

Richard Newman was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Carers WA in November 2022 and comes with more than 20 years’ experience in community services across the aged care, disability, carers support and mental health sectors.

Besides working as Head of Service Delivery for Carers WA for nearly two years, Richard has most recently been the Regional Operations Manager for Activ Foundation, and before that worked for Masonic Care, MercyCare, Avivo and Umbrella. He has also been on numerous Boards including the Ministerial Carers Advisory Council and SHINE Community Services.
