Carers WA supports the Voice to Parliament

As the peak body for all carers in Western Australia, including a high proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander carers, we actively strive towards achieving our vision of a society where the role of carers is valued and supported. We do this by living our core values of diversity, inclusion, compassion and positive impact, with the support and guidance from a number of Aboriginal Elders who are an integral part of our Aboriginal working group.

The Carers WA Board, management and staff continue to embrace these core values and for that reason Carers WA supports the proactive approach of a YES vote in the Voice to Parliament referendum.

In February 2022, Carers WA announced its support of the Uluru Statement from the Heart. A key component of the Uluru Statement from the Heart calls for “Australians to walk together to build a better future by establishing a First Nations Voice to Parliament enshrined in the Constitution”. The Voice provides an opportunity for the Australian Parliament and Executive Government to hear advice from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on matters that affect the lives of their communities.

Carers WA acknowledges that there will be diversity of views amongst the Australian community, so we encourage all people to have respectful conversations, seek out relevant information, and ensure they are registered to place their own individual vote. To assist this, we have included links to a range of resources below.

Irrespective of the outcome of the referendum, Carers WA is committed to reconciliation and working towards our mission to support the empowerment and wellbeing of all carers within our state.
