In Australia, there are many employees who combine paid work with caring for someone with disability, mental health concerns, a chronic condition or terminal illness, or someone who is frail aged.
The Be Job Ready Course is the first of its kind in Australia and for more than 5 years has been assisting carers to enter or re-enter employment within the Perth Metropolitan area.
This program supports carers to identify skills from their caring role that are transferrable to the workplace, equipping them to ‘be job ready’. It is delivered in a supportive small group environment covering key job-related skills and techniques.
This course will provide you with realistic information and practical skills that can be utilised to secure and maintain employment. Over 10 sessions (2 hours per session) participants learn key job-related skills and techniques. They then have the opportunity to job seek with other carers during the final two sessions.
Additional benefits of the program often include:
1. Register your interest using the online form below.
2. Carers WA will contact you to provide an overview of the support that is available and will advise if the program will meet your requirements. If not, Carers WA will refer you to other programs and services can be provided.
3. A meeting will be scheduled to assess your needs in relation to gaining employment and will involve creating a goal plan to assist with balancing caring role commitments in your transition to work.
4. Carers WA will offer a placement on the free course to provide you with the skills to job seek and apply for work. Please note: places are limited and will be prioritised based on needs.
This service is provided by Carers WA and funded by the State Government through the Department of Communities.
