Home Carers in Employment Program Carers – Be Job Ready DRAFT

Carers – Be Job Ready!

In Australia, there are many employees who combine paid work with caring for someone with disability, mental health concerns, a chronic condition or terminal illness, or someone who is frail aged.

The Be Job Ready Course is the first of its kind in Australia and for more than 5 years has been assisting carers to enter or re-enter employment within the Perth Metropolitan area.

This program supports carers to identify skills from their caring role that are transferrable to the workplace, equipping them to ‘be job ready’. It is delivered in a supportive small group environment covering key job-related skills and techniques.

About the Program

This course will provide you with realistic information and practical skills that can be utilised to secure and maintain employment. Over 10 sessions (2 hours per session) participants learn key job-related skills and techniques. They then have the opportunity to job seek with other carers during the final two sessions.

Additional benefits of the program often include:

  • An improved sense of self-worth and self-confidence.
  • The opportunity to interact with other carers in a supportive group setting.
  • The re-establishment of a routine similar to that of the workforce.
  • Access to interview clothing.
