Better Start for Children with Disability

Important Information: Better Start Registrations in WA

Better Start for Children with Disability has closed for new registrations and will be absorbed into the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme). The process of transferring clients has begun across regions as funding will cease 30th June 2020 for all families registered with Better Start.

Better Start provides funding for early intervention services.

Children are eligible for Better Start if diagnosed with one of the following disabilities:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Deafblindness
  • Down syndrome, including mosaic Down syndrome
  • Fragile X syndrome with full mutation
  • Hearing impairment
  • Vision impairment
  • Cri du Chat syndrome
  • Prader-Willi syndrome
  • Williams syndrome
  • Smith-Magenis syndrome
  • Angelman syndrome
  • Kabuki syndrome
  • CHARGE syndrome
  • Cornelia de Lange syndrome
  • Microcephaly
  • Rett’s disorder

The thresholds that apply to these disabilities have been determined by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs in conjunction with advice provided by an Expert Reference Group.
