The Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) approach delivered by WANSLEA and NDIA is now in place across all of WA and the Better Start initiative will cease on Wednesday, 31st March 2021.
Families of children aged 0-6 years old, who are currently registered with Better Start to receive funding should contact the NDIA to test their eligibility for NDIS funding, if they have not done so already.
The Better Start team at Carers WA can help support your family with referrals, resources and information to access the NDIS, specifically within the 0-18 year age range. There are a number of ways to access the NDIS and the Better Start team can provide support to navigate the NDIS.
Access to Medicare rebates through the Better Start for Children with Disability initiative is still available. Children under the age of thirteen with an eligible diagnosis can access Better Start Medicare items for up to four diagnostic / assessment services and up to twenty treatment sessions. You do not need to be registered with Better Start to use these Medicare items. Talk to your GP for more information and to develop a treatment and management plan.
If you would like further support moving forward and if you are unsure who your ECEI partner is you may like to contact Deb at Better Start.
Alternatively, you may contact the NDIS National Call Centre (NCC) on 1800 800 110, for information and support with getting an assessment for the NDIS. The NCC can help find a local Early Childhood (EC) Partner and can give advice on how to complete your “Verbal Access Request” over the phone.
