Volunteer group helping the Great Southern Region

In The Shire of Plantagenet and Cranbrook, located south of the Great Southern Region of Western Australia, local volunteers are coordinating assistance to their neighbours and individuals who are finding it challenging during the COVID-19 pandemic. The team are working with their local IGA in Mt Barker for shopping orders to be collected and delivered by volunteers to the community members who have reached out and contacted the team.

Sue Etherington, coordinator of the regional volunteer group in the Great Southern, organises grocery pickups and home deliveries on Tuesdays and Thursdays from the Mt Barker IGA, with an order form filled with requested items. The volunteer team will pick up the groceries and deliver it outside the individual’s home without personal contact. It is a quick, easy and efficient way for someone who is self-isolating or unable to go to the shops, to receive their essential home items through the enthusiastic team of community members.

If you are located in this area and require additional support, we encourage you to contact Sue Etherington on 0417 949 081 to receive support. She encourages people to reach out or spread the word to those who require help during this time. We encourage you to support your friends, family and neighbours in a safe and sustainable way with Government guidance by spreading kindness and spreading the word of helpful community groups.
