Carers WA is honoured to have been selected as one of Telethon’s 161 beneficiaries for 2025. Thanks to this generous support, young carers across Western Australia were given the opportunity to participate in a memorable Young Carer Adventure Camp during the April school holidays.
Held at Cahoots Adventure Camp, the program offered young carers the opportunity to take a break from their caring responsibilities and engage in a range of recreational and team-building activities.
Highlights included:
-
High ropes and rock climbing
-
Archery and pool games
-
Treasure hunts and movie night
-
A themed disco
-
Dorm-style accommodation to encourage peer bonding
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. While 50% of attendees reported feeling nervous prior to the camp, 100% indicated they were happy and enjoyed the experience. When asked about the best part of camp, 75% said it was the friendships they formed, with responses including:
“The friends I shared a room with.”
“Bunking in the dorms with friends.”
“Hanging out with friends and having fun. I loved all the activities.”
“It was so good to have time out from my usual day. Sometimes I have to put myself second for my brother, but for a few days it was all about me.”
“I loved it. Made me super happy and I came home super tired, but relaxed.”
This initiative would not have been possible without the support of Telethon. Carers WA is proud to be recognised as a 2025 Telethon beneficiary and remains committed to delivering programs that support the wellbeing and resilience of young carers across the state. Thank you, Telethon, for helping us make a difference.
