National Carers Week, taking place from 11th to 17th October 2026, is an annual celebration recognising the invaluable contribution of unpaid carers across Australia. 

Carers WA, as the peak body representing carers in Western Australia, is championing the week by providing Community Activity Grants. 

Open to not-for-profit organisations and community groups, grants of $500-$800 (excluding GST) are available to support local National Carers Week events and activities that engage, inform and celebrate unpaid carers.

Community Grant Activity Ideas: 

1. Carers’ Wellness Events
   Host a relaxing event featuring yoga, meditation, pilates, sound healing or any self-care activity designed to provide carers with a well-deserved break and promote their mental and physical wellbeing. The grant could be used for hiring professionals, providing healthy snacks, and creating a relaxing atmosphere.
2. Mindful Arts and Crafts Workshop
   Arrange a creative workshop featuring activities such as painting, pottery or jewellery making, allowing carers to express themselves and connect with others. 
3. Skill Building Workshop
   Arrange a workshop that can help carers build new skills or hobbies. This could be anything from a cooking class to first aid training. The grant could be used to pay for an instructor and any necessary materials.  
4. Carers’ Picnic
   Organise a picnic in a local park or community space where carers can relax, connect and enjoy time outdoors. The grant could be used to pay for catering, transportation and lawn activities.  
5. Morning or Afternoon Tea
   Create a welcoming space where carers can enjoy refreshments, meet other carers and build meaningful community connections. 
6. Outdoor Adventure
   Plan a relaxing outing for carers, such as a guided walk through Kings Park, a local park, nature reserve, or walking trail. Grant funding could be used for transportation, picnic refreshments, or a guided activity, providing carers with an opportunity to unwind, enjoy nature, and connect with others.  

Whatever activity you choose, ensure it is inclusive, accessible and welcoming for carers in your community.
